The Seaside Motel in Country Home Magazine

country-homeThe famous Country Home magazine went Antiquing. They picked up their bags and traveled to the Central Coast of California in search of the best junk – read antiques – in the west. “Here’s where they went, what they saw, and what they found…why there? The junk is plentiful and very cool—a great start! But the people win your heart. They’re part cowboy, part hippie, part surfer, and all laid-back. There’s no big-city attitude here. And then there’s the amazing scenery. How many places can you go and enjoy the mountains, swim in the ocean, visit garden and artist communities, take in the tumbleweed town, and tour wine country — all in one weekend? Oh, and the weather’s great too!

“…We make it a fairly early day so that we can scope out a new motel in Cayucos that puts us in easier reach of wine country, where we want to end our three-day adventure. When we pull into the kitschy-cool Seaside Motel and meet proprietors Rebecca and Rick Roquet, we are sure that good ol’ Minnesota hospitality has migrated west.

This couple became our instant friends. Just when we think we’ve found our favorite junking, eating, and shopping town ever — along comes Cayucos. This is a throwback to the 1960s California surfer town, with lots of characters and even more great junk.” – CountyHome Magazine

Seaside Motel in the Cayucos Breeze

cayucos-breeze“…75% of the Seaside Motel’s business is repeat business …guests whose grandparents or parents first brought them, are now arriving with their own families. They even have entire groups that book all the rooms to spend holidays or special family days at the Seaside.

It’s relationships like these, and living in this small beach town that gives the two innkeepers the passion to do their job each day at the Seaside Motel.” – The Cayucos Breeze

Customer Reviews

“We have needed a restful vacation like never before and this stay at your motel was beyond anything we could have dreamed of. The sound of the ocean lulled us to sleep, though the comfy beds and beautiful room didn’t hurt. Your motel is beautifully decorated, your garden phenomenal and your friendly hospitality THE BEST! Thank you, thank you, thank you, for allowing us to stay in such a fabulous place.”
The Rockeys – John, Barbara, Sarah, Susie

“Staying with Rick and Rebecca is like visiting your favorite aunt and uncle, at their cozy cottage by the beach. They couldn’t be more helpful or gracious. They make us feel like royalty and we return home feeling pampered. We look forward to our visits — the Roquets help soothe our soul.”
The Mossmans – Barbara and Brian

“Cayucos has the charm of the old frontier with the sophistication of fine restaurants and fabulous antique shops. But it’s Rebecca and Rick who make our visits perfect, again and again.”
The Phillips – Suzie and Geof

“It’s difficult to find the words to describe such a great experience. Having been there once before, it’s amazing to find that the second stay at the Seaside just gets better! It is so cozy, comfortable and charming, wonderfully decorated and Rick and Rebecca ensure we had everything we needed. Cayucos is fabulous and the motel is wonderfully located, quick and easy to the beach, great shops and fabulous restaurants. We’re already planning our third visit.””
The Penningtons – Bob and Kay

“The Seaside Motel exceeded our expectations in terms of its location, comfort and scenery. The owners anticipated everything we, as guests, might need or want and the room — Rambling rose — was exquisitely decorated and the bed was the most comfortable we’ve ever slept on! Loved the changing tides, the shore birds, watching the surfers, and Schooners Wharf makes the best Calamari ever!”
The Kingstons – Sally and George

“This is the fourth visit to the Seaside Motel and it was nothing short of wonderful. Rick and Rebecca take such pride in their tiny motel and it shows in how clean and well maintained the property is. It’s nearly unbelievable that Rebecca does all the gardening herself, plus maintain the rooms. Our first time here was during the 4th of July, years ago, and the town was magical.”
The Martins – Paula and Steve

“This sweet little motel is everything it is advertised, and more! We felt like we were welcomed like long lost friends and the time spent with Becky and Rick was delightful. We highly recommend it to people who want to visit the last of the California funky beach towns instead of the polished, crowded towns in Southern California.”
The Torres – Michael and Jennifer

“Everything was accurate in the descriptions of the Seaside Motel, including the photos. What they don’t reflect is how immaculate the rooms are. Both Rick and Rebecca were available and helpful. My husband and I would recommend this motel to anyone wanting a restful and wonderful place along the central coast. We plan to revisit soon. For our anniversary we went to the Cass House, and what a treat that was!”
The Wrights – Jan and Dave

“’We love the Seaside Motel! It is so NOT like the sterile motel rooms of the big chains where you can predict what artwork will be in every room whether you’re in Chicago or San Francisco. At the Seaside Motel, every room is unique. Every time we visit, there is something new, whether it’s a new quilt or carpeting. And the garden…we just can’t say enough! Becky’s fingers are all green – all ten of them and the garden shows off her talents proudly.”
